Poolesville snowkiting

Headed out to a private farm in Poolesville with Matt and Lon. I would have blasted a message here but I only had persmission for 2 or 3 kiters. (and I’m very glad we called first as there were several farm trucks driving around who likely would have hassled us if we didn’t have the go ahead). IT WAS F*CKING GREAT!!!!!Definitely the best day I’ve ever had snowkiting and it felt like the first time I was really snowkiting. I slid a bit yesterday at the soccerplex, I scraped the lake in last month’s incorrectly named board sport’s trifecta, and I got my ass handed to me up in PA with Sump & Vali a couple years ago…but this actually felt like snowkiting! Carving up the field for a couple hours, playing in snow drifts, pointing the board and going wherever I wanted, and just generally having a blast!I tested the wind first with my 5M foil and that was pretty much a train wreck. It took me a while to sort out the lines/bridle due to the high wind but I finally launched and was able to ride. However, every time I hit a lull the kite would drop out of the sky and then it’d be a crap shoot whether I’d launch it again. So I rigged up the 7M T3 (inflatable) and it was GREAT!

The T3 was a fantastic snowkite in comparison to my 5M. It relaunched so easily in any position, had great range, and chewed up the gusts. I really had fun on it. I probably could have been on my 11M most of the time, but I think the gusts would have scared me on that. The 7M felt just right. I was planning on selling that 7M for an SLE high wind kite, but I think I will hold onto this bow for a snowkite. It was just very friendly out there.About when I launched the LEI, Matt showed up with his Frenzy. He had some issues with the cleat and a missing donkey dick that kept him working, but he eventually got under it and was carving back and forth like a mad man. We were hootin’ and hollerin’ every time we passed under each other. Good times! When the lack of a donkey dick wore him down (the CL would unhook on every lull) I handed him my kite and took some pictures. I was spent.Lon showed up after we’d been riding a while…rode his Neo 8M for a bit and then switched to his PL Twister (not sure what size). The wind my have gotten a little gustier by then as he didn’t have the usual amazingly graceful Lon session. Still, he carved it up on his Twister and landed some jumps as well. Lon seems to be able to handle just about any foil with grace.
Anyway, I had a blast. Was good to see everyone and I hope you guys get to score tomorrow (or later tonight….there was some talk.)

fields of fun. worth a vacation day, for sure.
